UAE-based shopping mall developer Majid Al Futtaim Properties (MAF) has announced a major redevelopment of Muscat City Centre and Qurum City Centre, aimed at enhancing the malls’ family entertainment and dining choices. With an investment of $29.3 million (OMR 11.3 million), the project will see a combined total of approximately 80,000 sqft of retail space added to the malls by early 2014.

Muscat City Centre will feature the country’s largest cinema, a 10-screen Vox Cinemas operated by MAF. The mall’s family entertainment centre Magic Planet will be expanded by 20%, increasing its total area to 19,500 sqft to accommodate more dynamic games, rides and play options for the entire family. The food court will have five additional dining outlets and double its seating capacity to host more than 900 guests.

Qurum City Centre will introduce a new 7-screen VOX Cinemas. The mall will also build a new 5,800 sq ft Magic Planet entertainment centre designed for young children with soft play areas, rides and redemption games.

“City Centre malls have established themselves as landmarks for the community and we are excited to reward our loyal shoppers by creating new and unique family destinations of an international standard. The redevelopment at Muscat City Centre and Qurum City Centre will significantly boost the emerging entertainment landscape and foster positive economic and tourism growth for the Sultanate,” says Fuad Sharaf, senior director –property management, Majid Al Futtaim Properties.
