French hypermarket chain Carrefour has opened a 60,000 sqft hypermarket in BurJuman Centre in Dubai, becoming the first store to open for business in the mall’s remodeled North Wing as the ongoing renovation and expansion project progresses toward completion. The new anchor tenant is the first of several major retail and entertainment additions expected to drive increased traffic to the mall.
“The opening of Carrefour marks the beginning of a new chapter for BurJuman, which is in the midst of an exciting phase in its development. Carrefour will serve as a key anchor tenant for the mall and is expected to be a high-traffic addition to our retail mix, reinforcing our position as a key player in Dubai’s retail and entertainment scene,” says Leigh Regan, COO, BurJuman.
According to Henri Changeux, executive regional director of Majid Al Futtaim Carrefour UAE, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain, Bur Dubai, one of the city’s most vibrant and densely populated areas, has long demanded the presence of a full-service Carrefour hypermarket in the vicinity.
“As the premier retail hub of Bur Dubai, BurJuman provides the perfect location to establish our presence within this high-growth market, and we are happy that the BurJuman management welcomed our keenness in opening for business ahead of completion of the mall’s ongoing renovation project,” says Changeux.
“BurJuman is situated right at the crossroads of two of Dubai’s major residential and commercial zones – Bur Dubai and Karama – and further enjoys a sizeable secondary and tertiary catchment that extends all across the surrounding neighborhoods and along a significant stretch of the Creek. The BurJuman metro station operates as a key connecting junction between the Green and Red Dubai Metro lines which further extends accessibility and the ability to serve the needs of a growing community,” adds Younis Al Mulla, senior vice president of Majid Al Futtaim Retail.
