Al Tayer Insignia partners with UNHCR

Middle East retailer Al Tayer Insignia has partnered with UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) for the “Share the Joy of Warmth” winter campaign, which aims to provide awareness and support refugee children during the festive season. From December 4 to February 4, Al Tayer’s retail and online stores in Dubai are providing the community a chance to help support refugee children.

During winter, refugees struggle to buy the essentials they need to keep their children healthy and warm. They are living in makeshift shelters and in unfinished or derelict buildings with little to protect them from the bitterly cold winds. UNHCR provides winter assistance to refugee families and children in the region to help them survive the freezing winter months. The assistance includes essentials such as a heating stoves, thermal blankets, sleeping mats and cash for fuel.

The winter campaign is the first to kick-off the Al Tayer Insignia and UNHCR year-long partnership to provide much-needed assistance to vulnerable refugee children in the Middle East region and beyond. Al Tayer Insignia has committed to running a series of campaigns giving the community the opportunity to advocate for the cause, contribute financially and be the #HopeForAGeneration.

The aim is to raise awareness and help fund the project through donations as a result of public awareness initiatives, as well as assisting the UNHCR further in their efforts to meet the urgent survival needs of refugees and internally displaced people (IDPs) in the MENA region, amid a global refugee crisis.

“We are very pleased to partner with the UNHCR on this initiative and engage the wider community in Dubai to support this cause. With the new year approaching, it is in these times where we should reflect and appreciate how fortunate we are and extend a helping hand to those in need. We hope that with the help of the community we can make a positive impact on the lives of the refugees together,” says Khalid Al Tayer, CEO of Al Tayer Insignia.

Commenting further on the importance of providing winter support, Houssam Chahine, head of private sector partners at UNHCR MENA, adds, “There are nearly 25.4 million refugees, over half of whom are under the age of 18. Vulnerable refugee children and their families face harsh, cold winters where temperatures can drop as low as –4°C. Together with the Al Tayer team, we will work hard to ensure that children and families are better prepared for the cold temperatures, by providing winter assistance that goes to the distribution of items to help them cope with the weather conditions.”
