City Centre Muscat launches electric vehicle charging facility

Majid Al Futtaim has brought another first for residents and tourists in Oman by introducing an electric vehicle charging facility at City Centre Muscat.

Early adopters of the fast-growing automotive technology, which helps reduce harmful emissions that cause climate change, can avail this service for free at City Centre Muscat as part of its collaboration with Tesla. Four designated charging stations have been set up in the mall’s parking facility on Level 1.

“The government’s sustainability goals prioritise the support for electric vehicles in the Sultanate with infrastructure that will enhance convenience for early adopters. We see ourselves as their partners in driving innovation in the country and facilitating easy access to free charging units that will encourage others to consider environment-friendly modes of travel and create a culture of eco-consciousness in society,” says Husam Al Mandhari, senior mall manager, Oman – Shopping Malls at Majid Al Futtaim Properties.

The designated charging stations have been secured to allow only visitors with electric vehicles to park. Instructions on how to use the service are displayed at the stations. Customers who require further assistance can contact the traffic marshal available onsite.

The initiative is part of Majid Al Futtaim’s sustainability strategy, which includes bringing innovations and convenient green solutions to its destinations to encourage the community to reduce their carbon footprint.
