Azza Fahmy, Chairwoman & Creative Director, Azza Fahmy Jewellery

“Since the time I started my journey up to this day what I cherish the most is the fact that I’ve been able to stay aligned with my goal to preserve and evolve time-honoured techniques in jewellery making” – Azza Fahmy, Chairwoman & Creative Director, Azza Fahmy Jewellery.

Celebrated as one of Egypt’s most influential women in business, Fahmy’s journey towards becoming one of the most esteemed jewellery designers from the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region started over 50 years ago.

The inception of Azza Fahmy as a brand is no less remarkable, which took place in what would come across as an unlikely venue, at the 1969 Egyptian Book Fair. That’s where Fahmy stumbled upon a German art book about classical jewellery of Medieval Europe. Struck by inspiration and passion, she decided to launch Azza Fahmy Jewellery.

Continuing in her day job, she became an apprentice in Khan El Khalili, Egypt’s ancient jewellery quarter where she spent her evenings learning with one of the craft’s most respected masters – the first woman to achieve this. A lifelong learner by nature, Fahmy pursued several other courses from reputed global institutes to gain deep knowledge about the art of jewellery making.

Over the decades, with a profound sense of purpose, Fahmy has translated the region’s culture and art through contemporary jewellery designs that reflect her unique research approach and commitment towards the preservation of craftsmanship.
