Consumer spending in the US is set to touch $6.7 billion this year, as part of Independence Day celebrations on July 4, indicates the National Retail Federation (NRF) survey.
NRF has been conducting its annual Independence Day survey, along with Prosper Insights & Analytics, since 2003 to see how Americans will celebrate the July 4th holiday. This year’s survey was fielded to 7,553 consumers and was conducted between June 2 and 12, 2019.
In 2019, 86% plan to celebrate Independence Day while 14% will not. The planned per person spending on food items for Independence Day is estimated to be $73.33. And 26% of those celebrating plan to purchase additional patriotic items.
The survey findings indicate that 61% will cookout, do barbecue or go for picnic; 40% will engage in fireworks and community celebrations; 11% will attend a parade; 14% plan to go on a vacation; and 8% will engage in several other activities.
