Emiratisation is a priority for Union Coop

The percentage of Emiratisation of senior jobs has reached more than 72% at Union Coop. The cooperative has developed an integrated system to Emiratise all jobs across divisions and departments that can be Emiratised.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Union Coop Majid Hamad Rahma Al Shamsi confirmed that Emiratisation is a priority for Union Coop to achieve the vision of the UAE’s wise leadership. Pointing out that the cooperative is always keen to implement the directives of the UAE government in all fields, especially providing support to the national economy and societal and economic development.

He also pointed out that aligned with the Nafis programme – that aspires to give Emiratis the opportunity to work in jobs compatible with their capabilities, talents and competencies – the cooperative plans to annually raise the percentage of Emiratisation for skilled, administrative and other jobs.

In a press statement Khalid Humaid Bin Diban Al Falasi, CEO of Union Coop confirmed that the cooperative aims to increase the percentage of Emiratisation annually. The current Emiratisation rate at Union Coop is 37% and aims to reach 40% by the end of this year. The number of Emirati employees working under the umbrella of Union Coop stands at 443 so far and aims to touch the 500-mark by year-end.

Al Falasi also touched on the new pension system, which is expected to have many positive effects in attracting Emiratis to the private sector. It will encourage them to work in the private sector as employment related privileges will be like public sector jobs. This is also expected to encourage the private sector to attract national competencies since the current pension law is one of the biggest obstacles for Emiratisation in the private sector and needs revision. The competent authorities must review the pension systems in the private sector, amend the regulations so that private sector institutions can attract national talents and raise the percentage of Emiratisation, Al Falasi added.
