Japanese information and communication technology (ICT) company Fujitsu has launched self-checkout solutions that integrate mobile and in-store shopping experiences.
The U-Scan Quantum Checkout is an automated point-of-sale solution which allows retailers to toggle back and forth from self-to-full service and back again within a single transaction, delivering an enhanced checkout experience, known as modified service. Modified service, as defined by Fujitsu, addresses the gap in which a consumer desires to fully participate, but may need minor cashier assistance. This new design model makes it possible for retailers such as drugstores, convenience and category-specific stores to easily adopt and deploy automated checkout.
The Quantum Go program is a queue system that is designed to be integrated into Fujitsu retail solutions, starting with U-Scan self-checkout. This system is designed to improve the wait time, and direct the consumer to the fastest checkout line.
The U-Shop mobile application is designed to enhance the in-store shopping experience by allowing consumers to scan each item using their smartphones, remove items from their purchase list, and pay for their items without delay at the register. When the order is complete, the consumer can skip the long checkout lines by using the U-Shop application’s easy payment functionality at the self-checkout or a cashier station. The application can be integrated with customer loyalty programs the retailer already has in place.
“Self-checkout has become a core component within most retailers’ point-of-sales operations. The wide adoption of self-checkout proves that consumers are empowered by do-it-yourself (DIY) options in-store. Retailers are constantly looking to enhance the shopping experience among their technology savvy customers, and the Fujitsu Quantum portfolio is the perfect answer,” says Brian Yates, director of retail product marketing at Fujitsu America.
