British entertainment retailing company HMV is all set to launch an e-commerce website within weeks, which will allow shoppers to buy from it online for the first time since its collapse.
The retailer currently operates a website in the UK, which has no e-commerce functionality and is in the style of a music blog in order to help people discover music. However, the retailer’s Ireland operation is already running an e-commerce website.
“We are careful that we don’t want to overcook it but there is a large potential for the UK website to lift the business,” feels HMV chairman Paul McGowan.
HMV’s resurgence has come after it was acquired by Hilco – specialising in restructuring and refinancing other companies – after collapsing two years ago, resulting in the closure of almost 100 stores. Since then the retailer has returned to profit, opening six new stores and recently overtook Amazon in terms of sale of physical music.
