Furniture retailer IKEA will, reportedly, open in Bahrain next year with construction expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2018.
IKEA Bahrain, to be located in Salmabad, is being opened in partnership with Saudi Arabia’s Al Sulaiman Group. It will, reportedly, be one of the biggest IKEA stores in the region that upon completion is expected to see over 1.2 million people every year.
According to the IKEA Saudi Arabia expansion manager Fruto Hernandez, “The main works contract has been awarded to Kooheji Contractors. The enabling and foundation works of IKEA Bahrain are complete and the main work has started. Right now we are continuing with the slab works, water proofing, underground piping and precast order which are in progress. Our aim is for the store to be completed by the second quarter of 2018.”
The store will also house a 66,736 sqft showroom, 64,583 sqft market hall for accessories, 53,820 sqft of self-service space, 43,055 sqft full-service area and the biggest restaurant in the Kingdom with 800 seats over an area of 26,910 sqft. Spread across two levels, IKEA Bahrain will have over 1,100 parking spaces.
