As part of the Swedish furniture retailer’s global initiative to enhance customer experience and see further commercial success through its stores, IKEA Yas Island based in Abu Dhabi, has become the brand’s first-ever ‘reference store’ in the world.

“We are proud to call IKEA Yas Island the first reference store in the world as the store is one of the best examples of how having a motivated team of co-workers and a thorough implementation of the IKEA commitments and requirements creates a fantastic offering for the customers,” says Vinod Jayan, managing director – IKEA UAE, Qatar, Egypt and Oman,

While acknowledging the IKEA Yas Island team for their contribution, he adds, “We believe that what makes the IKEA Yas Island team special is their passion for retail, people and the customer, as well as a clear commitment the IKEA way. We are delighted that they are the first recognised reference store in the world.”

IKEA Yas Island opened its doors in 2011 as one of two stores in the UAE. The accolade was given to IKEA Yas Island store as it successfully implemented the brand’s global concepts ensuring local relevance within its market, meanwhile empowering its co-workers and inspiring other retailers. The global ambition for Inter IKEA Systems B.V. is to have 12–14 reference stores by 2020.
