French hypermarket and supermarket chain operator Groupe Casino officially opened the region’s largest Géant hypermarket at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Mall on December 16 through its regional franchisee Retail Arabia. “Choosing this strategic location for this prestigious positioning was a logical step in the success story that underscores Géant’s constant endeavour to set the standards in one-stop retail facilities,” says Arif Shaikh, managing director of BMA.

“With the mall now integral to the whole Yas Island experience and the sizeable influx of discerning residents and visitors, Géant has planned this flagship enterprise in a manner that reflects the overall exciting image of the Island and its lifestyle. With Yas now central for concerts, sports events and a wide range of entertainment options it makes good, sound business sense to offer such a dependable and varied up-market shopping option,” adds Mark Anthony Lack, chief operating officer, Géant.

The hypermarket, spread over 120,000 sqft on the lower ground floor of the mall, has on offer more than 40,000 products. From fresh produce to a comprehensive butchery there are also sections for seafood, groceries, frozen foods and bakery products. Besides the food section, there are special areas designated for fashionwear, shoes, jewellery, electronics, sporting goods, household items, household accessories, cosmetics and fragrances.

“We are very pleased to have an anchor hypermarket brand like Géant opening at Yas Mall. Having operated in the region since 2001, Géant has established itself as a leading brand in the one-stop retail facilities sector and we are proud to host Géant’s first hypermarket in Abu Dhabi and the largest in the GCC region. This new opening is testament to Yas Mall’s continuous efforts to bring new retail offerings to Abu Dhabi, and provide shoppers with an unparalleled shopping, dining and entertainment experience,” asserts Talal Al Dhiyebi, executive director of asset management at Aldar Properties.
