LiZZOM launches UAE’s first sustainable period care vending machine in school

With an aim to make period care accessible to menstruators homegrown brand LiZZOM has launched UAE’s first-ever sustainable period care vending machine at Gems Modern Academy.

With this launch LiZZOM becomes the first company in the UAE to provide sustainable period care at schools. While Gems Modern Academy becomes the first school in the UAE to have these organic biodegradable sanitary pads dispensing machines in its washrooms.

“The launch of our sanitary pads vending machines opens up a new movement in the region. For 233 million women in MENA, we want to make periods smarter, safer and accessible everywhere in the next five years. Our vision is to democratise and normalise the distribution of sustainable period products in the MENA region,” stated Chanda Lokendra, CEO and Founder, LiZZOM.

“Sanitary napkins are a necessity for every woman. They are an essential commodity, and every girl must have access to it. Young girls at schools and women at work should have easy access to clean period products when needed,” she added.

LiZZOM’s vending machines will dispense organic biodegradable sanitary pads. It comes with a front-facing LCD for content that can be remotely managed and can be used as an information board. And it can be programmed to use a smart card for users (employees/students) with limited or unlimited access.

“If nobody is expected to carry around toilet paper in the workplace women must not be expected to carry around period care products either. If tissue paper is accessible in all washrooms, why not sanitary pad,” Lokendra observed.

There is a strong case to be made for biodegradable and sustainable period products as 22% of women’s personal plastic waste is from period care products. Each traditional sanitary pad is equal to four plastic bags. Sustainable period care vending machines in all washrooms will bring safe period care closer to women.
