Netflix has announced the launch of its e-commerce platform where show merchandise will be sold. The online store, Netflix.shop will sell limited-edition apparel and collectables based on shows like “Stranger Things,” “Lupin”, and more.
The store is currently only accessible in the US but will expand to other countries in the coming months.
This is an attempt to monetise its content by selling directly to the fans and followers of Netflix’s original shows, as opposed to selling through retail partners such as Walmart and Target, as was done previously.
Netflix.shop will serve as “an exciting new destination combining curated products and rich storytelling in a uniquely Netflix shopping experience,” according to a statement from Josh Simon, Netflix’s vice president of consumer products.
New items related to its original content are expected to be added to the store, which is currently run through Shopify, according to the Times.
