Opinion: How enhanced customer experiences can help attract and retain customers

For typical retail investors, creating an innovative experience in retail spaces is viewed as an additional and unnecessary cost. While the market nowadays shows that customers seek to create memorable experiences beyond product acquisition, which forces companies to address multiple factors, the one that stands out the most is customer experience.

“Customer Experience in Retail,” a study published in October 2020, highlighted how CX can determine a company’s success and how such experiences are essential to attract and retain customers. This also gives the companies a competitive advantage and influences customer preferences, which in turn impact their purchase decision.

The customer journey can start online and end in-store or vice-versa. Still, the perfect journey is designed to begin even before the first shop visit and continue after-sales consistently and seamlessly. However, this has drastically changed after the advent of the pandemic, forcing the retail industry to rapidly adapt to accelerated shopping trends and have shifted consumers from physical stores to a digital shopping experience. This pivot transformed retail spaces to focus on the brand’s image instead of a store with back storage. Now, stores will be spaces to explore and physically interact with products, and will transform into social spaces where we can meet and entertain customers.

The importance of this concept, along with newer trends, requires interior designers to provide more than just aesthetic designs and go above and beyond to create customer-centric designs and anticipate customer needs based on a thorough understanding of audience insights, brand engagement, service, and product designs, customer data and an integrated technology stack. The design must not only be aesthetically pleasing but also easily renewable, endeavouring to provide a happy experience at each touchpoint and every interaction and visit.

At TARAF Interiors, we believe in creating new customer experiences led by innovative and successful designs. We aim to translate the brand’s strategies into creative design options that match brand targets and align with our leadership vision. With over a decade of experience in retail, hospitality, and high-end residential projects, we know how to shape the future, and we are here to help retailers achieve their goals adapting to the ‘new normal.
