Multinational consumer goods company Procter & Gamble (P&G) Arabian Peninsula has been given the Excellence in Supply Chain Collaboration award for 2012 by pallet and container pooling services company CHEP in recognition of its efforts to integrate supply chain networks, inbound raw materials channel and outbound product distribution, and streamline material handling processes across the GCC region.

“For any business to do well it has to have an effective supply chain operation that can significantly impact both revenues and margins. Unfortunately not many companies innovate or develop their supply chains to deliver better efficiencies and lower costs. P&G is one of the few firms that has constantly improved its supply chain network and has transformed the manner in which materials and products are shipped to plants, from there to the client and finally to the consumer. This is a huge reason why it won the Supply Chain Excellence award in 2011 along with this year’s recognition,” says Kevin Smyth, CHEP’s Middle East managing director.

Last year P&G had zero equipment losses following the extensive implementation of supply chain controls across the company’s plant and distribution network. It was also recognised for its efforts to further collaborate with distribution partners, suppliers and customers across the whole scope of its supply chain to streamline material handling processes across all supply chain drop points within the GCC.

“We always strive to innovate constantly across all our businesses. We understand that efficiency and development of our supply chain operations is critical in maintaining growth, especially in the Arabian Peninsula. Our production facilities in the region are sizable, and P&G’s supply network operations is essential to ensure that materials and products are delivered timely at the right place,” says Hayat Chaoui, associate director for P&G’s supply network operations for the Arabian Peninsula, Pakistan and the Near East.
