Middle East based online retailer Souq.com has recorded ten-fold increase over average daily sales on the first day of White Friday sale that commenced yesterday, with 40% of the sales coming from the mobile app. This reinstates the growing m-commerce trend in the region.

In addition Souq.com has confirmed that two items were sold per second with over 20K mobiles, 20K bottles of perfumes and 20K fashion items being sold within the first few hours of the White Friday sale taking place from November 25-28.

Of the purchases made on the first day 40% came via credit card, which also proves customers are availing benefit of partnership with MasterCard to get 10% extra off on all deals.

“Souq.com is leading the trend in the growth of online shopping in the Middle East which is one of the fastest growing e-commerce markets in the world. High GDP per capita, robust mobile penetration rates, younger population, ease of buying are some of the key factors fuelling a boom in online sales in the Middle East. With 60% of consumers being under the age of 25, the region has a growing number of people who are ‘living online’ and who understand the benefits of electronic payments such as speed, convenience, security and value for money,” says Ronaldo Mouchawar, CEO & co-founder, Souq.com.

“Through partnering exclusively with some of the region’s top brands, we are able to bring some truly unbeatable deals to the table during White Friday 2015. We are delighted to see our customers benefitting via mobile app that ensures you don’t miss out the big hourly deals even while you are on the go,” he adds.
