The UAE-based supermarket chain, Spinneys has officially opened its latest – solar-powered – store at The Villa, Centro Mall, in Dubailand.

Spinneys at The Villa, Centro Mall, is the first supermarket to be powered by solar energy as part of Centro Mall’s efforts to use renewable energy to create a sustainable future. More than 6% of the mall’s power will be produced through a grid solar panel system and a specially designed solar water heating system for the mall’s heating requirements.

The 20,265 sqft new store at The Villa, Centro Mall is Spinneys 54th store in the region. The supermarket offers an in-store bakery, fresh cold and hot deli, freshly baked bread, fruits and vegetables, mixed salads and everyday staples.

“We’re delighted to be opening a new store at The Villa, Centro Mall to bring a fresh food experience to the local community. Spinneys recognises the importance of sustainability in the region, and this will be the first Spinneys store to operate using solar energy. We hope to pave the path to a sustainable future with many environmentally friendly initiatives soon to be announced at Spinneys,” says Matt Frost, CEO, Spinneys.
