In an exclusive Q&A Hirdesh Kumar Methwani, Group Head Marketing, 2XL Home (as well as OC Home and Sapsa Bed&Co) talked about the brand’s milestones in 2024 and growth goals for the future.

Let’s start with your thoughts on Smart Homes.

Smart homes will seamlessly integrate human-centric designs with advanced technological solutions, enhancing both comfort and convenience for residents. The key to striking a balance lies in ensuring that technology complements rather than dominates the living space. By prioritising intuitive user interfaces, personalised experiences and sustainable solutions, the home space can effectively harness technology to meet the evolving needs of consumers while maintaining a human touch.

Tell us about 2XL’s key milestones in 2024.

We inaugurated our flagship store in Al Barsha, setting the stage for elevated customer experiences and expanded market presence. Additionally, plans are underway for further expansion, with upcoming store openings in Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. These milestones underscore our commitment to innovation and growth.

Have you planned any tech-based investments for 2025?

While we currently do not have specific tech-driven investment plans for 2025, we remain vigilant in identifying opportunities to enhance our business through strategic technology investments. Our focus is on leveraging technology to optimise processes, improve customer experiences and drive sustainable growth. As market dynamics evolve, we will continue to evaluate emerging technologies and their potential impact on our business, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of innovation in the retail industry.

Are there any barriers to tech adoption within your business?

We view technology adoption as a continuous journey of evolution rather than a barrier. Our organisation is dedicated to embracing innovation and exploring new ways to integrate technology into our operations and offerings. By fostering a culture of adaptability and collaboration, we remain agile in navigating the complexities of technological advancements.

According to you, what does tomorrow’s tech agenda entail for MENA-based retail organisations?

Looking ahead, the tech agenda for MENA-based retail organisations will revolve around harnessing emerging technologies to drive seamless omnichannel experiences, enhance customer engagement and optimise operational efficiency. Embracing artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics and Internet of Things (IoT) based solutions will be instrumental in delivering personalised experiences and staying competitive in the digital era.
